When her beloved mare Ramblers Empress died at the end of April 2009, Karen Wylie wrote the following tribute:
"This mare was one of a very rare line and outlived many of her own progeny and brother Ramblers Renown who was sold to America.
Empress was the reason my love of the Cleveland Bay developed. I had known her since she was three months old whilst working for Mrs Sonia Roberts of the Ramblers Stud. Later, having taken up a career as a Secretary, I was able to buy Empress who by then had already been sold on a couple of times. Later still, when I had my own family, I sold her and spent the next seven years regretting it. Eventually I was able to buy her back in foal from Mr Medforth since when she has spent the last ten years with me. We had a super time showing with a foal at foot and under saddle at local shows.
Empress will be sadly missed. She was such a wonderful character and my best friend."
