Samantha Thurman-Baker and Spring Pascal 2010 


Samantha Thurman-Baker and part bred CB Spring Pascal have made a convincing start to the year in the three day Addington Manor High Profile dressage event.   On the first day, Friday 22nd January, the talented pair came 5th in both the Advanced Medium Test (66.3%) and the PSG (64.2%).   Samantha and Pascal excelled on Saturday, winning the FEI Junior Team Test with 71.6%.   They went on to come 4th in the PSG (66.57%) and were then again placed 1st in the FEI Junior Individual class (66.57%).   Rounding off their visit to the Buckinghamshire venue, Team Pascal achieved 2nd place in the FEI Y.R. class.   They have now been invited by the selectors to compete in Austria in April.  You can read more about 16 year old Samantha and her Cleveland Bay Sporthorse on Magazine Page 16.   On 20th February, Samantha and Pascal were 8th in the Advanced Medium Open of the British Dressage Winter Regional Championships at Addington. 25.1.10/22.2.10

After representing the UK in an FEI Junior International Dressage event in Austria at the beginning of April, Samantha and Spring Pascal returned to win the Petplan Equine Prix St George Area Festival Championship at Hartpury on 8th April.  This is part of the NAF 5 Star Winter Dressage Championships.   Congratulations to Samantha who celebrated her 17th birthday in March.   Photos soon!

With Samantha and Spring Pascal moving up to Prix St George level, they won their last Advanced Medium with 69.74% at Pachesham on Saturday 17th April.   A first place qualified them for the Regionals and the Hickstead Masters in June.


After representing the UK in an FEI Junior Dressage event at Stadl Paura in Austria at the beginning of April Samantha Thurman-Baker and Spring Pascal made the best start to the season by winning the Petplan Prix St George Area Festival Championship.  The successful team were taking part in the NAF 5 Star Winter Dressage Championships at Hartpury (Glos) in on Thursday 8th April.   Samantha was the third competitor but her score of 66.84% held up through a strong field of 19.   Spring Pascal is nine this year and is by Hanoverian stallion Pascal out of the Cleveland Bay mare Springtime Girl (by Penrhyn Gladiator out of Knaresborough Springtime).  They are currently in the Junior Prime Squad and are aiming for selection for the Junior European Championships 2010.


The British Dressage Premier Show at Keysoe in Bedfordshire (23rd to 25th April) brought yet more success for Samantha and Spring Pascal.   Starting with a win in the Junior Team Test, they went on to 'mix it with the big boys' in the PSG.   Second to go, they scored 70.56%, enough to hold top placing throughout with Pascal having sixteen '8's in his test.   This qualifies them for the Nationals.   A fantastic weekend was completed with a winning Junior Individual test on 70.39%.


On Friday 14th May, Samantha and Spring Pascal came 2nd in the Prix St George with 69.73% and 5th in the Intermediaire I with 65.92%.   They moved up a gear the next day with a First place in the PSG scoring 69.86% and a 4th in the Intermediaire I with 66.97%.   They also won the Small Tour for the highest percentage over the four classes.


In their second international outing in 2010, Samantha and Spring Pascal have been part of the Junior British team in the CDI at Compiegne, France.  In the individual test on Friday 4th June the pair scored 66% to come 3rd with Samantha the highest placed British rider.  On Sunday 6th they had a foot perfect test with 68% and another 3rd place.   Diane Thurman-Baker reports that Pascal is now much more settled amid the excitement of the big occasions and "behaved like a true pro'" for the presentation.  Finally in the Music section, Samantha and Spring Pascal scored 71% to finish 4th.

On Friday 9th July, Samantha and Spring Pascal took part in the Dressage to Music at the Royal Festival of the Horse.    A week later the team had to miss Hartpury, instead departing for the European Championships on 16th July.

Samantha Thurman-Baker and CB Sporthorse Spring Pascal have won the final team selection test for Young Rider with 69.87% in a class of 15 at Hickstead on Thursday 24th June.   This was followed later in the day with a third place.  Samantha and Pascal have now been selected for the Junior European Championships.


Representing Great Britain in the Junior European Championships in Kronberg, Germany, Samantha Thurman-Baker and Spring Pascal were placed 12th overall following their performance on Thursday 22nd July.   Pascal was said to be "beautifully calm" in the test and at the presentation.  The British Team are standing at 5th place.

     Their second test on Saturday 24th July was screened live via the internet.    Comments posted on the Turville website indicate Pascal behaved and performed very well.   The team qualified for the Riding to Music test on Sunday 25th.  Samantha was the first Junior Briton to achieve this in recent years.


Samantha Thurman-Baker and Spring Pascal won the Martin Collins Advanced Medium Open in the Summer Regional Championships at Addington on 13th August.   A score of 70.70% put them first in a field of 19 which included Carl Hester, Emile Faurie, Maria Eilberg and Peter Storr.   The win has qualified them for the Advanced Medium Nationals.   In the following class they moved up to their new level to be placed sixth in the Bates Saddles FEI Intermediare I.


Success for 17 year old Samantha Thurman-Baker and her CB Sporthorse Spring Pascal just keeps piling up.   On Friday 27th August at the Sheepgate British Dressage U25 Championships they started by winning the Hortech Systems sponsored Junior Team Championship with 73.38%.   Less than an hour later they won the FEI Young Rider Team Championship with 71.97% (Sponsored by Aerborn UK and Falcon Feeds).

     Next morning the pair began by taking first place in the Young Rider Championship with 71.84% (Sponsored by Aerborn and Falcon Feeds).  In the afternoon they had another first in the Hortech Systems Junior Individual Championship on a score of 73.82%.
