It was with great sadness that we learnt that a good friend of the Southern Club, Dougie Kearl, died on Saturday 8th January 2011 after losing his battle with cancer.

For the past five years, Dougie and his wife Isobel have provided first aid support for the Club Show held at Folds Farm near Fordingbridge.   It was after their first visit to Folds Farm that Dougie decided to buy a Cleveland Bay.   In a lucky break he found Belgrave Ambassador in 2006 and was hooked at their first meeting.   They have been the perfect match ever since.   Dougie learned to ride as a boy in the New Forest.   After joining the Army he would ride whenever he had the opportunity and spoke fondly of the time as an instructor at Sandhurst where he would sometimes exercise officers' horses.   Izzy and Doug loved their weekends at Folds Farm, helping with the show and spending time with their many friends.   They would camp in the field and for Londoners, it was amazing to wake and see geese and swans flying over.   We send our sincere condolences to Isobel - The Folds Farm Show will not be the same without Dougie.
